Itay Matan’s paintings exist in a liminal space whose location and time are unclear, raising questions about identity and belonging. Through alienation and anomalous links and connections, Matan seeks to facilitate a state of contemplation on the ability of images to function as representatives of culture. The paintings deal with the broad discussion of representation in the 21st century, particularly that of the medium of painting and its historical role in the contemporary economy of images. Matan’s works have been exhibited at Braverman Gallery, Fresh Paint Art Fair, and A.D. Rothschild, among other institutions.
