Adi Nes is one of Israel’s most well-known photographers. He creates staged, large scale and multi-layered color photographs, executed with meticulous light and print qualities. His work draws inspiration from his personal biography, as well as from collective Israeli memory and universal art history. Although photographed years ago, the two canonic works exhibited here feel more relevant than ever: one featuring Israeli soldiers, and the other shot in a bomb shelter in Ofakim, near the Gaza border. His work has been exhibited at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Israel Museum, Jack Shainman Gallery, Wexner Center for the Arts, and Barbican Centre, among other institutions.
